Opening day celebrations

The opening day of the Helsinki Christmas Market is filled with programme and celebration, and of course, it sets the Christmas atmosphere for the Senate Square area. The mayor of Helsinki Jan Vapaavuori opens the market at 10 along with a few words and Christmas greetings to the visitors. At the same time, the cabins of the Gift Alleys will open their doors and the ovens and grills at the Food Court are heated up to serve delicious Christmas treats. The carousel will take the first spin inviting all onboard!

The Christmas sauna stove will be heated for the very first time and first guests are welcome to experience the unique sauna from 12 onwards. The Christmas Saunabar invites the sauna bathers as well as all other guests also from 12.

The stage next to the statue of Alexander 2 will offer programme throughout the day. Musician Mikko Harju will perform at 15 and a Christmas carol singalong event will start at 16 inviting everybody to sing or just listen to the beautiful traditional Christmas carols.

The very first market day will culminate at the Food Court or the Christmas Saunabar area with a glass of hot glögi mulled wine. After the market day is over, the neighbouring area Tori Quarters offers options to continue the night. Enjoy a nice dinner or a cocktail at one of the many bars and restaurants, or perhaps stop by at the Helsinki City Museum Christmas season opening disco.
